- What does it mean that this is the inaugural board for Capture the Dream, Inc.?
This is the first year that Capture the Dream, Inc. is seeking a Board. If you are accepted as a board member, you will be part of a pivotal milestone for the organization.
- What is the term and/or time commitment for the Board?
The term of the board is two years. Board members are required to attend a two-hour meeting once a month in the Bay Area. Other time commitments are dependent on board committee involvement as well as program event attendance. The estimated time commitment can vary from 5-20 hours/month.
- How many board members is Capture the Dream, Inc. looking to recruit?
Depending on the number of applicants, we are looking for approximately 10 board members.
- What characteristics are you looking for in a Board Member?
Our ideal board members have a passion for helping low income youth, specifically in educational and career-oriented endeavors. We are interested in entrepreneurial-minded individuals that are passionate about scaling the organization to grow. Board members who have overcome adversity themselves (whether from a low income background, a minority, single-parent home, etc.) can serve as an inspiration for low income youth to achieve their own dreams. Since our organization is Bay Area-based, we are looking for board members located in the Bay Area who would like to focus on helping youth in this community. Previous board experience is preferred, but not required.
- What types of skill sets is Capture the Dream, Inc. looking for in a Board Member?
We are looking for board members who can make effective key decisions for the organization, are strong communicators and have the ability to promote the organization to his/her networks. These individuals must be dependable, reliable, and passionate about giving back to the community.
- What types of backgrounds is Capture the Dream, Inc. looking for in a Board Member?
We are looking for a board that represents a variety of different backgrounds, and we highly value diversity. The future board will comprise numerous spectrums of diversity, including gender, ethnicity, industry background, age, board experience, and more.
- Are there particular industries or work experience that Capture the Dream, Inc. is looking for?
We are seeking expertise in specific areas based on the needs of the organization. Applicants from the following professions or industries are preferred (but we will consider qualified candidates from other backgrounds): Teachers or Education, Law Enforcement, Finance, Nonprofit, Entrepreneurs, Legal, Venture Capitalists, and Corporate Management.
- What is the application process like? How do I get accepted as a board member?
Once you have determined that you are interested in joining our board, please submit a Board Member Application Form. Our team will evaluate your application and schedule an in-person interview if we think you are a good fit. If you are invited to join our board, you will be required to complete a background check in addition to submitting your board contribution to the organization.
- What are the monetary contributions required to join the Board?
To ensure commitment and dedication to the organization’s growth and expansion, it is suggested that all board members contribute $1,000/term. Each board member’s recommended fundraising goal is $5,000/annually. There is some flexibility in the monetary contributions, and the team is open to discussing adjustments to these figures based on other contributions to board committee tasks.
