Out-of-state but want to adopt a family? 1. How much does it cost to sign-up to adopt a family? Capture the Dream, Inc. will be collecting $10 from adopters per family they choose to adopt. These payments can be made on our website and covers the cost of gift storage, gift transportation, and other miscellaneous costs. 2. What is the cost of adopting a family? You can generally expect to spend a minimum of $100 to adopt one small family, or approximately $50-100 per individual in your adopted family. 3. Who are the Adopt-a-Family recipients? We partner with several Bay Area non-profit organizations and local programs that work primarily with low-income families. We work with these organizations to select participating families. CTD reviews each family carefully to ensure that they are truly in need of assistance for the holidays, and would benefit from participation in the Adopt-a-Family program. 4. What are the criteria for recipient selection? a. low-income b. Bay-Area resident c. referred by a non-profit organization or social worker 5. Can I bring the gifts to the family I adopt? Yes. We highly encourage participants to be present for gift presentations as it allows participants on both ends to experience the impact of everyone's generous actions. 6. Where and when is the gift delivery held? We will be holding gift delivery presentations on Sunday, December 11, 2011 (Group 1: Matilda Cleveland Transitional Housing, Oakland; Bay Area Youth Centers, Hayward) and Sunday, December 18, 2011 (Group 2: James Lick Middle School, San Francisco; Low-Income Families' Empowerment through Education, San Leandro) between 9am-6pm. The location of gift delivery presentations depends upon your group. If you would like to participate in presenting gifts to your adopted family, please note your desire when you sign up online and indicate your availability for those Sundays. 7. Should I wrap the gifts? No. Please submit gifts unwrapped. CTD must be aware of all items that have been submitted. Unwrapped gifts help us ensure that gifts are delivered to their assigned families and that all items are appropriate and safe. However, do include gift-wrapping materials along with your gifts : wrapping paper, tape, ribbons, etc. We appreciate your cooperation. 8. Can I give used items? No, unless it is specified on your family's wish list that they do not mind accepting lightly-used items. 9. When do I get the information for my adopted family? Can I choose what size family to adopt? We will try to get information about your adopted family to you within 5 days of when CTD receives confirmation of your successful online sign up. We do our best to pair adopters with appropriate sized families based on the wish lists they submit. 10. Is it possible to present our family with their gifts at our property so that all the people who contributed to the gifts can share in the event? Unfortunately, no. If you would like to participate in the gift presentations, you must be available during your group's scheduled gift presentation time slot. Many of our families use public transportation to get to the hosted site, so requiring them to go farther than their area of residence is often an additional hardship. Further, as this is a Capture the Dream, Inc. event, it is necessary that all dealings with Adopt-a-Family take place under our general supervision. 11. Will we be able to give food such as canned goods and non-perishable items, in addition to the items listed on our family's wish list? No, unless it is specified on your family's wish list. 12. Tax Deductible Receipts provided? Yes, tax deductible receipts are provided only if you provide Capture the Dream, Inc. with the sales receipts for proof of purchase. Please note sales tax is not included in your tax-deductible receipt. 13. Out-of-state but want to adopt a family? You may choose to give a monetary donation to Capture the Dream, Inc. to purchase the gifts on your behalf, or have the gifts mailed to us. |
