By Athalia Nakula
Date: April 6, 2007

San Francisco, Calif. - Capture the Dream, Inc. and WHOMentors.com, Inc. hosted a two-hour free 2007 Jr. Olympic Skills Local Tournament at Kezar Pavilion on Friday, April 6, 2007. The event included basketball, tennis, soccer, track and field competition.

The event's objective was to provide youths ages 8 to 13 with the opportunity to compete in a friendly environment and to promote fitness, physical activity, sportsmanship, and sports participation.

Janine Lee, CEO of Capture the Dream, Inc., said, "We are providing children & [with] resources to participate in a fun, energizing event and eventually instill specific characteristics that will assist them in succeeding in school and ultimately to find fulfilling careers."

According to a 2004 study of 111 students from Midwest eight grade classes, extracurricular activities like sports showed a significant relationship with higher school G.P.A. for both male and female students. Lee said, "[The children] thought the event was fun and rewarding."

The winners moved on to the regional Jr. Olympic Skills Tournament and then progressed to the national U.S. Training Center.

Beyondpix.com taped the event for submission to HBO Real Sports. The segment will air on April 16.
