Oakland Raiders day-out

Date: 26 Aug 2006

Oakland, Calif. – Free tickets were offered to 50 teenagers ages 15 and under from low income, single-parent homes to watch the 2nd pre-season Oakland Raiders football game on Friday, August 25, 2006.

According to the Ad Council, 24 million children live in fatherless homes. Of these, nearly 40 percent haven’t seen their fathers at all in the past year.

“It allowed us to spend some quality time with the teenagers & in a way that was fun and exciting and that would make a measurable difference in their lives,” said Janine Lee, CEO of Capture the Dream, Inc.

Moana Dixon from ABC’s The Barchelor Paris made a guest appearance at the game to show her support for the project and to interact with the teenagers and their mothers.

Besides watching the game, volunteers interacted with teenagers and their mothers on the importance of healthy eating and on participating in physical activities like sports.

“The teenagers enjoyed the game and the parents were thankful to spend time with their children,”said Lee.
