April 16th, 2007, The Oakland Tribune, Support Peralta Elementary's Book Drive - OUR NORTH OAKLAND public school, Peralta Elementary, was badly damaged by a fire March 26. Because of the extensive damage, the school reopened April 3 at Carter Middle School. The library, built through many years of effort and well-used by the students, contains books that are smoke damaged, and only a minimal amount will be salvaged. Read more.

Fall 2007 Issue, Volume 25, No. 1, UC Davis Magazine, Class Notes - Janine Lee is founder and CEO of Capture the Dream Inc. a nonprofit Oakland-based organization dedicated to helping disadvantaged and at-risk individuals succeed at school and find fulfilling, sustaining careers. Founded last year, the organization provides financial aid to low-income families, single-parent homes, foster children and children recovering from traumas, while providing mentoring, education, arts and cultural programs. December 12, 2007, AsianWeek, Page 8 - Janine Lee is your typical girl in the San Francisco Bay Area: a 23-year-old recent college grad, budding socialite in the nightlife scene, and sometime actress, martial artist and community activist.  She also happens to be CEO of Capture the Dream, a nonprofit aimed to help underserved and at-risk Bay Area residents succeed at school and find fulfilling, sustaining careers. Winter 2008 Issue, Volume 25, No. 2, UC Davis Magazine, Class Notes - Janine Lee, CEO of Capture the Dream Inc., won the Maybelline and People magazine’s Empowerment through Education Award. Lee was featured in the “Heroes Among Us” Nov. 5 issue of People and received a $10,000 donation to her charity.

July/August 2008, Kung Fu Magazine, Pages 3, 108 - On March 21, 2008, a band of martial artists assembled to teach inner city kids in the heart of San Francisco's tenderloin district, which is often described as "the worst neighborhood in San Francisco" due to its high rate of homelessness, poverty and crime.  Read more.
